Michaela Watkins is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to comedy. Appearing in many film and TV programs, Watkins has established herself as a go-to comedian and actress.
Watkins started off by building a theatrical career in Portland, Oregon, appearing onstage with Portland Center Stage and the defunct improv group Toad City Productions.Subsequently she became active in Los Angeles Theatre for many years, taking on roles with Circle X Theatre and 2100 Square Feet.
She began her film career with a role in 1998’s “Inconceivable” before she was cast on an episode of the hit series “Charmed.” Watkins became a regular guest star appearing on “Without a Trace,” “Strong Medicine,” “Medium” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” She appeared in multiple episodes of the sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” as a receptionist before she played Jennifer in “7 Deadly Hollywood Sins.”
In 2008, she became the newest cast member of “Saturday Night Live.” She became known for her celebrity impersonations, particularly of Joan Rivers, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Arianna Huffington on their Weekend Update sketch, Barbara Walters, and Glenn Close.
Later that year, she was seen on two episodes of “Californication” and played Lucy on the fourth season of “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” Watkins had a supporting role in the romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan” starring Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin. Watkins played the part of Mona, the longtime best friend of Jennifer Lopez.
In 2011, Watkins appeared with recurring roles in the comedy programs “Enlightened” and “New Girl.” As well as making guest appearances on shows such as “Hung,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Modern Family.” She also starred in the ABC’s series, “Trophy Wife,” playing ex-wife Jackie Harrison.
Her film credits include “Enough Said,” “In a World…,” “Afternoon Delight,” “The Back-Up Plan,” “Wanderlust,” and “They Came Together” starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.
Most recently, she was cast as Rhonda in the new Netflix original comedy, “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and in 2018 it was announced that Watkins would be joining the cast of the Amazon Prime series Catastrophe, playing the sister of lead character Rob Norris (Rob Delaney).
Watkins grew up in a Jewish home and still practices today.
