Alan Kennedy
Alan Kennedy is Newcastle United and Liverpool club legend. In a 22 year career, the left back made over 500 appearances in club football, becoming a regular in one of the most successful Liverpool teams in history.
He began his professional career at the age of 18, playing for Newcastle United.

He began his professional career at the age of 18, playing for Newcastle United, and would go on to make 158 appearances over five years with the club before joining The Reds for a British record fee for a full back in 1978, joining Liverpool for £330k. In his debut season at Liverpool, Alan would quickly establish himself in the team, helping the club to the First Division title in the 1978-79 season, before repeating the feat in the 1979-80 season.
The club would go on to win the First Division five times during his spell at the club with Kennedy becoming a stalwart member of the side. He would also lift the League Cup on four occasions, as well as the European Cup in 1981 and 1984.
Though he was not known for his goal scoring prowess he had a knack for scoring important goals. He scored the equalising goal in the 1981 League Cup Final, before Liverpool went on to beat West Ham in the replay. He also scored the equalising goal in the 1983 League Cup, a game that eventually saw Liverpool win in extra time.
But his most important goal scoring contributions arguably came in the European Cup when Kennedy scored the only goal of the 1981 European Cup Final against Real Madrid. He would also score the decisive penalty in the 1984 European Cup victory over Roma.
His incredible ability to pop up when needed most endeared him to Liverpool fans and has since seen him listed in the 2006 list of 100 Players who Shook the Kop. After 359 appearances and 20 goals for the club he moved to Sunderland in 1986, before continuing his career in the lower leagues.
Since retiring he has turned out for Liverpool FC’s Legends team and regular appeared in the media. As an after dinner speaker, he is a wonderfully charismatic and down to earth speaker, whose experiences speak for themselves.
