Full Bio

Andre Ingram graduated from American University in 2007 with a degree in physics, and when he dreamed about what his adult life would look like, Ingram saw himself moving from the classroom to the basketball court in the pursuit of becoming an NBA star.

For the next decade, Ingram stopped at nothing to achieve his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. Using his extensive knowledge in mathematics to make ends meet as a tutor, Ingram was able to dedicate himself to the NBA Development League over the course of 10 years. His skill was matched only by his drive to continue bettering his game, which became evident as he eventually became the all-time G-league three-point leader.

Finally, after more than 350 games played in the G-League, Ingram got the opportunity of a lifetime in April 2018, when Magic Johnson told him the Los Angeles Lakers would be calling him up from their G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, to play in their final two games of the season.

Knowing the potential to start his professional career was riding on those two games, Ingram stepped on to the court and immediately showed his new teammates, opponents and fans alike that he was there to stay. Scoring 19 points (including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers), Ingram’s NBA debut was the fourth highest scoring for any Laker in history. As he continued to thrive throughout the game, it became clear that the crowd was in his corner. Between numerous “MVP” chants and excited roars every time he got the ball, the stands, and homes across America, were filled with people not only applauding his success but taking pride in his diligence to achieve it.

Following his wildly successful NBA debut, Ingram signed with the Lakers at the age of 32, nearly a decade older than the average rookie. News of Andre Ingram’s long, inspirational journey to the NBA made headlines around the world. He threw out the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers game and made appearances on Good Morning America and Sportscenter. From his days on the basketball court at American University to finally achieving his NBA dreams, friends, teammates, and fans acknowledge Ingram as a dedicated player, a passionate mentor and a shining example of personal and professional success.

Andre currently lives with his wife, Marilee, and two daughters, Maliyah and Navi, in Richmond, VA.
