Full Bio

Beth Comstock’s mission is to understand what’s next, navigate change and help others do the same. By cultivating a habit of seeking out new ideas, people, and places, she built a career path from storyteller to the chief marketer to Vice Chair of GE. Currently, she is an advisor, director, and author.

Beth serves as a director at Nike, trustee of The National Geographic Society, and was former board president of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Museum. She is a partner in Climate Real Impact Solutions and advisor to several startups. She has been a visiting scholar with Columbia University’s Center for Science and Society.

Beth retired from GE in December 2017 following a 27-year career there. As GE’s Vice-Chair of Business Innovation, and previously Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Beth initiated GE’s clean-energy and digital transformations, developed new businesses, increased GE’s brand value, and partnered to enhance its inventive culture. She led the creation of Ecomagination, GE Ventures & Licensing, Current, an intelligent environments business, and oversaw GE Lighting. She was responsible for the company’s sales, marketing, and communications functions, and was its first Chief Marketing Officer in 20 years.

As President of Integrated Media at NBC Universal, Beth oversaw television advertising revenue and the company’s digital efforts, including the early development of hulu.com. She held a succession of marketing and communications roles at GE, NBC, CBS, and Turner Broadcasting/CNN.

Beth graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in biology. Her first book, Imagine it Forward, about working (and living) on the front lines of change, was published in September 2018 by Penguin Random House. She has been on the Fortune and Forbes lists of the world’s most powerful women and named a Linked In Top 10 Influencer.
