Full Bio
Candice takes the audience along with her as she recalls the three best days in her twenty-year career with the FBI. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats as she recounts working in Chicago as a rookie agent in 1982 on the # 1 Major Case in the FBI–the TYLENOL Murders. Audiences will be spellbound as she describes her six weeks undercover in Lincoln, Montana where she secretly collected evidence, surveilled Ted Kaczynski, and spent the afternoon with him in a mountain cabin, where he regaled her with cooking tips. Finally, Candice shares the gripping story of receiving a 4:00 AM phone call that a young boy had been kidnapped from his home by a convicted child molester. The unforgettable story of how she and her team of FBI agents rescued the child and caught the offender is utterly compelling. Her lecture offers a missing chapter in the annals of law enforcement as well as a dramatic and often funny picture of a woman who has dedicated her heart and soul to the crusade against crime.
Candice DeLong is the best-selling author of Special Agent: My Life on the Front Lines as a Woman in the FBI. She was on the front lines of some of the F.B.I.’s most gripping and memorable cases, including the Tylenol Murders, and was one of three agents to carry out the manhunt for the Unabomber in Lincoln, Montana. She tailed terrorists, went undercover as a gangster’s moll, and posed as the madam for a call-girl ring. DeLong was, until her retirement in July 2000, the head profiler in the San Francisco Division of the F.B.I. She served as liaison to the Bureau’s world-famous Behavioral Science Unit at Quantico, and was a member of the California Child Abduction Task Force. Her memoir reveals the dangers and rewards of being a woman on the front lines of the world’s most powerful law enforcement agency. DeLong’s memoir was also the source of a riveting Lifetime Original Movie, Killer Instinct: From the Files of Candice DeLong.
Today, Candice can be seen on the Investigation Discovery network’s two hit shows Deadly Women, where she provides analysis of women who kill, and Facing Evil with Candice DeLong, where she goes behind prison walls to interview convicted killers. She frequently appears on television, commenting on violent crime stories in the headlines, as well as tips on personal safety. Her appearances include Meet the Press, 48 Hours, Dateline, Hardball with Chris Matthews, MSNBC Investigates, NBC, ABC and CBS Evening News, Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and Oprah.
Candice is considered an expert in the analysis of interpersonal violence, and as such, she dedicated an entire chapter of her book to how men, women, teens, and even young children can protect themselves in a dangerous world. This chapter was the basis of the Lifetime TV show What Should You Do? wherein DeLong analyzed real-life cases of kidnapping, assault, rape, robbery, attempted murder, and home invasion. Based on her twenty years of law enforcement experience and training as an FBI profiler, DeLong showed viewers exactly what to do to avoid being victimized or how to increase one’s odds of survival if ever confronted by a violent criminal. Today, at the podium or in the classroom, she shares her unique tips on how to stay safe at home, while traveling, at work or away at college.
