Full Bio
Chris Webber is a four-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBA Team member, a former NBA Rookie of the Year, and a former number one overall NBA draftee. At the University of Michigan, he was a member of the unforgettable “Fab Five.” Webber now serves as a Broadcast Analyst at TNT, where he also co-anchors “Players Only.” Chris starred in the Lionsgate /Temple Hill feature film “Uncle Drew,” which recently premiered.
After being named the top high school player in the country in 1991, Webber joined the University of Michigan Wolverine’s. As part of the ‘Fab Five’, Webber made history as the first player in history to make the NCAA All-Tournament team as both a freshman and sophomore. He was then selected with the No. 1 overall pick of the 1993 NBA Draft after two seasons playing and he would go on to win the 1994 Rookie of the Year award during his first of two season-long stints with Golden State Warriors.
After being traded to the Washington Wizards, Webber started a streak of nine straight seasons averaging 20 or more points per game in 1994-95. This streak traveled to Sacramento, home of the best basketball of Webber’s career. During six-plus seasons with the Kings, Webber averaged 23.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks and grabbed the most rebounds in the NBA during the 1998-99 season. Webber played with Philadelphia, Detroit and Golden State to close out his career, retiring in 2008 with career averages of 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Webber ranks third all-time on the Kings’ points-per-game leader-board. When his #4 jersey was retired in 2009, Webber received a two-minute standing ovation.
Aside from basketball, Webber produces films under his Webber/Gilbert company with documentarian Peter Gilbert. He is also one half of Beat Brothers, a music production duo with brother David Ranier. He is featured as a broadcaster in the massively popular video game: NBA 2K and hosted “Chris Webber’s Full Court Pranks” on TruTV.
A humanitarian at heart, Webber’s passion to give back inspires him every day. In 1993, he and his family established the Chris Webber Foundation to spread lessons of loyalty, hard work and discipline to underprivileged youth and their families. The foundation has provided toys, books, scholarships, school incentives, holiday presents and financial support to thousands of youth in the Detroit, Washington DC,Oakland, Atlanta, Sacramento and Philadelphia areas, as delivered four truckloads of books, uniforms and other relief supplies to Gulf Coast cities affected by Hurricane Katrina.
In 2003, the Sacramento Kings presented him with the inaugural Oscar Robertson “Triple-Double” Award for his leadership and community service. That same year, Webber, who serves on the National Advisory Council for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, received the Make-A-Wish “Wishmaker of the Year” Award. In addition, he has received the NBA Community Assist Award twice (2003, 2006). The California Black Caucus recognized his efforts in 2005 and awarded him a resolution by the California Legislature and in 2007. The States of Michigan and Nevada have also recognized Webber for his devotion to the community.
