The former General Manager of the NBA’s Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey is an expert in the field of analytics. He successfully spearheaded an innovative integration of statistical analytics into the evaluation of NBA talent, forever changing the sport. Morey was named winner of the 2018 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership of The Rockets. The team had winning seasons in each campaign under Morey. In the 2017-18 season, the Rockets made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, with the best record in the league. In the 2014-2015 season, the Rockets made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, as one of the best four teams in the NBA. In 2013, the team—then considered underdogs—successfully made it to the NBA Playoffs. And in 2007-08, the Rockets won a remarkable 22 straight games, which stands as the third-longest winning streak in professional sports history.

Morey is the founder and co-chair of the annual MIT Sloan Sports Conference, which is the largest annual sports conference hosted by a business school. Sold out every year since its inception in 2006, the conference has become the premier venue for sports analytics discussion.

On Nov. 2, 2020, it was announced that Morey would be joining the Philadelphia 76ers as President of Basketball Operations after 14 seasons with Houston. Of the move, 76ers Managing Partner Josh Harris said “Daryl Morey is one of the very best front-office executives in the NBA and I’m thrilled to welcome him to Philadelphia…Talent like Daryl rarely becomes available so we moved quickly and aggressively to bring him here.
