Ed Kowalczyk is the former lead singer of Live, who were prolific throughout the 80s and 90s. Ed was joined by founding members Chad Gracey (drums), Patrick Dalheimer (bass) and Chad Taylor (guitar). Interestingly, Ed actually auditioned to join Live as a guitarist but he ended up fronting the band for all those years and his name has become synonymous with his former band. However, they were not originally known as Live. Originally the foursome called themselves Public Affection. It was only following their debut release, Death of a Dictionary, that they decided to change their name and they were known as Live from then on.
They released their Metal Jewelry, album under the name Live. It was followed up with an EP called Four Songs. However, Live really hit the big time with their follow-up album, Throwing copper, that was released in 1994. Success was such that the band embarked upon a 252-date tour, and with these early live performances by Ed Kowalczyk, tickets sold out across the globe.
It was several years later, having recovered from their mammoth tour, that Live released Secret Samadhi, which was considered to be their most spiritual work to date. However, despite receiving mixed reviews at the time it is now considered as the necessary stepping stone to their highly critically acclaimed fourth album, The Distance to Here, released in 1999. Speaking at the time of the album’s release, Ed said, “the message of The Distance to Here is no secret. It is a message of love and an invitation to myself and to those who want to come along to ask the big questions and not feel uncool doing it.”
Ed Kowalczyk (tickets available at Eventim when on sale) is highly regarded by his contemporaries and has collaborated with Neneh Cherry, Anouk, Adam Duritz and Tricky to name but a few.
Ed Kowalczyk tour tickets always come with the promise of taking fans on an emotional and spiritual journey through the music. He is now embarking on a solo project, although he is still taking his little brother Adam along for the ride.
Ed’s first release under his own steam is entitled Alive. The first single to be taken from the album is called Grace.
