Born on December 31, 1979 in Kilcoole, County Wicklow, Ireland, Elaine Cassidy is a multiple award-winning Irish actress who is married to actor Stephen Lord, whom she met on the set of The Truth. At the age of 5, Cassidy got her first taste of acting when she was cast as Pinocchio in a school play. As a professional actress, however, her break came in 1994 when she was cast in the movie The Stranger Within Me. In 1996, she was nominated for the Most Promising Actress at the Geneva Film Festival for her role in The Sun, the Moon and the Stars. Her big break, on the other hand, was in the starring role of Felicia’s Journey with Bob Hoskins, in which she was nominated “Best Actress” at the 20th Genie Awards. Cassidy won the 2003 IFTA Award of “Best Actress in a Feature Film” for her role as Runt in Disco Pigs, opposite Cillian Murphy. She was nominated in the “Best Actress in Television” category in the 2005 IFTA for her role as Maud Lilly in a BBC Drama Fingersmith. She also spearheaded the series The Ghost Squad as the character Detective Amy Harris. Besides acting on TV, Cassidy has also worked in theater, appearing in The Crucible with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2006 and in There Came A Gypsy Riding at the Almeida Theatre in 2007. In addition to her film acting, she appeared in the music video for Coldplay’s “The Scientist”. In 2009, Cassidy was cast as Abby Mills on Harper’s Island, a CBS series about a group of family and friends who travel for a destination wedding to an island famous for a streak of unsolved murders.
