Gina Rodriguez is an award-winning actress, producer, director, and humanitarian, best known for her leading role as Jane in The CW comedy-drama series “Jane The Virgin,” for which she has been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, winning for Best Comedic Actress in 2015.
Gina recently appeared in 2018 sci-fi film “Annihilation” opposite Natalie Portman, and 2017 Oscar nominated animated films “The Star” and “Ferdinand.” Gina’s upcoming projects include films “Miss Bala” and “Someone Great,” and the Netflix animated series “Carmen Sandiego.”
Gina’s breakthrough film role was 2012 independent musical-drama film “Filly Brown.” Her other film credits include “California Winter,” “Enter the Dangerous Mind,” “Sleeping with the Fishes,” “Sticky Notes,” and 2016 disaster film “Deep Water Horizon” opposite Mark Walberg.
On the small screen, Gina had a recurring role in CBS soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” from 2011-2012, before landing her star role in “Jane the Virgin” in 2014.
Along with her producing partner Emily Gipson, Gina recently launched her own production company, I Can & I Will Productions, which is committed to promoting diverse cultures in television and film, and has already sold multiple projects in an overall deal with CBS Television Studios.
Gina has been honored by Unite 4:Humanity with the Young Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic efforts. Gina established the We Will Foundation to provide funding for young women in the arts, is a member of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Board of Directors, and has long worked with organization such as the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, NCLR, CHCI, NALIP, and Vote Latino.

I Can and I Will
It is an inspiring talk about her upbringing in a troubled neighborhood being taught by her father to overcome and succeed in any situation. Every night for 20 years, Gino Rodriguez (Gina’s father) knelt beside his three daughters’ beds and whispered an incantation. As rats the size of footballs skittered along the floor of the basement apartment on the South Side of Chicago, he repeated the same five words into each girl’s ear as she slept: “I can and I will.” The message was always the same, and the audience was always asleep. The girls occasionally woke up during their father’s nightly pep talks, rolled their eyes and then went back to sleep. But each morning, they did a series of jumping jacks, looked in the mirror and said, “Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.” And one by one, they proved their father right: they could and they did. Ivelisse Rodriguez Simon graduated from Harvard Business School and is now a partner at a private-equity firm. Rebecca Rodriguez is the medical director of one of the best family-health clinics in the country. And Gina Rodriguez won a Best Actress Golden Globe for her starring role on Jane the Virgin.
