Komal Ahmad, founder and President of Copia, is Solving the World’s Dumbest Problem by dramatically reducing food waste and hunger globally. Ahmad has built Copia as a for-profit technology company that has diverted over 4M pounds of perfectly edible food from landfill, feeding nearly 4M people in need with high-quality food that would have otherwise been wasted.
Copia has managed food recovery from high profile events including Super Bowl 50 and the Oscars. Most recently, the company served food to tens of thousands of victims and first responders to the worst wildfires in California history. Copia is recognized as 1 of the top 3 startups run by women in the U.S. and 1 of the top 8 startups graduating out of Y Combinator.
Ahmad graduated from UC Berkeley with honors where she was awarded the University of California’s “30 Under 30” Global Food Changemaker, along with Social Entrepreneur of the Year and a 2017 MIT Solver. She was named by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business, listed by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the Most Powerful Women in the World, by InStyle among the Top 50 Most Badass Women in the World, and by Toyota as Toyota’s Mother of Invention.
