Founders Kristina Villanueva and [silent partner] chose the name “Glutto” (pronounced: GLUHT-toe) for their Internet company due to its meaning and simplicity. It is a shortened derivation of the word “gluttony” which is commonly defined as: excessive eating and drinking. Due to the nature of the website focusing on food and drink, the founders decided “Glutto” was a fun and appropriate company name. Glutto is a registered trademark.
The Glutto logo consists of text with black typewriter font over a horizontally tapered red liquid line with two dots. The black typewriter font was chosen for its character and timelessness: a retro, yet contemporary urban feel. The nuances of each letter give the text a unique fingerprint, representing the distinguishing characteristics of Glutto from any other website. The horizontal liquid line represents the sauce in a plating design. The color red reflects passion and desire, symbolizing the innate passion and desire most people have for food and drink. The two red liquid drops at the end of the line are part of the plating design as well as a representation of an ellipsis, indicating an unspecified continuation. (Why only two dots instead of three? It’s more aesthetic than anything else, so the eye focuses more on the text instead of the dots.) Pertaining to the company, the dots illustrate continued and limitless growth..
