Maya Kocian is the executive director of Earth Economics. She has been with Earth Economics for more than 14 years. During which time, she has led over 30 projects for the organization, developing valuable partner relationships along with crucial project management, tracking, and delivery procedures. Her work valuing natural capital has informed legal cases in Costa Rica, supported Alaska’s largest recreation bond, and justified the nomination of a national marine sanctuary.
As Executive Director she leads their talented team in all aspects of program management and project delivery. Her familiarity with the organization’s staff, partners, and processes along with her well-earned position as a leader in the field of ecological economics continue to ensure that Earth Economics’ work is of the highest value, quality, and rigor.
Kocian was a member of the Mat-Su 2050 Committee, and the Artificial Intelligence for Ecosystem Services Partnership. She also volunteers as a mentor with Palmer Scholars, a non-profit in Tacoma committed to supporting underrepresented Pierce County students of color to overcome financial, cultural, and social barriers in their pursuit of higher education. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis and scuba diving.
