He spent his formative footballing years at Millwall and Tottenham Hotspur before becoming an established player at Southampton, playing 107 games and scoring nine times. Another spell at Spurs followed before Neil joined Liverpool, the team with which he would be most associated post-retirement. At Anfield, he became part of The Spice Boys, a group of players which lived colourful and glamorous lives off the pitch, perpetuated by the new riches within the game.
Neil spent five fruitful years in Merseyside before winding down his footballing career with impressive spells at West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Swindon Town.
Since then, Neil has been a firm fixture in the media and broadcasting world. An insightful pundit, he regularly appears for talkSPORT and Soccer AM, providing his perspective into the game whilst entertaining viewers with his personality, wit and charm. One of the most colourful characters in the sport, Neil is a brilliant football speaker who entertains and engages with crowds effortlessly. He gives the audience an insight into his career, from his scuffles with Eric Cantona and Patrick Vieira to his lavish lifestyle as part of The Spice Boys.
