Full Bio

Field’s book, In Pieces, was released in 2018. An intimate and haunting memoir, Field tells her story for the first time, and in her own gorgeous words–about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

She portrayed first lady Mary Todd in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, for which she received several major nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She also starred in the 2016 independent film Hello, My Name is Doris, a witty and compassionate later-in-life coming-of-age story. In 2017, Field received a Tony nomination for her role in The Glass Menagerie on Broadway.

On television, Field has won three Emmy Awards for her role as Nora Walker in the hit drama Brothers & Sisters, her title role in the landmark miniseries Sybil and her guest performance on ER. In 2015, Field was honored by President Obama with the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor the U.S. government bestows on artists.

A long-time advocate for women’s rights, Field has served on the board of directors of the Vital Voices Global Partnership since 2002. She also is an outspoken advocate for gay rights and was recognized in 2012 with the Human Rights Campaign’s Ally for Equality Award. In 2005, Field was diagnosed with osteoporosis, which led her to create the “Rally with Sally for Bone Health,” a campaign to educate and encourage women to improve their bone health. Field welcomes opportunities to teach others how to keep the disease under control and continue living life on their own terms.

An independent woman of fierce determination and dazzling talents, Sally Field is an inspiration to listening audiences everywhere. She currently resides in New York City.
