Serena Auñón-Chancellor, M.D.,M.P.H. is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in Baton Rouge. She graduated cum laude while earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She earned her M.D. from the University of Texas – Health Science Center in Houston, TX.

Dr. Auñón-Chancellor completed her Internal Medicine training at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Following her chief residency, she completed a second residency in Aerospace Medicine, also at UTMB. She then spent three years as a Flight Surgeon for NASA supporting spaceflight medical operations and was ultimately selected into the Astronaut Corps in 2009 as part of NASA’s 20th Class.

Dr. Auñón-Chancellor flew to the International Space Station in 2018 as part of Expedition 56 & 57, spending 197 days in space. Besides serving as academic clinical faculty here in Baton Rouge, Dr. Auñón-Chancellor also holds the role of Associate Program Director for the Aerospace Medicine Residency Program at UTMB as well as maintains an active role in the NASA Astronaut Corps. Her research interests include spaceflight associated health outcomes, space radiation clinical outcomes, and thrombosis in the microgravity environment.
