Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss – known as “the Winklevoss twins” – are entrepreneurs and investors who are determined to build the future of money. The twins first learned about Bitcoin on a beach in Ibiza in the summer of 2012, and since then, they have been on a mission.
Cameron and Tyler own 1% of all bitcoins in circulation and have been hard at work building Gemini, a next-generation bitcoin exchange, and COIN, a bitcoin ETF that will trade on NASDAQ.
The Winklevoss twins were born entrepreneurs. At the age of 13, they launched their own web page design company; at 16, they founded the rowing team at their high school. Their hard work paid off when they made the US Olympic rowing team and placed 6th at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
As undergraduates at Harvard, they were social-networking pioneers. Frustrated with the social life on campus, the twins, along with Harvard classmate Divya Narendra, set out to build a website that would not only connect students at Harvard, but also connect students on other campuses around the world. In late 2003, having already spent close to a year developing a sophisticated codebase, they approached and partnered with Harvard classmate Mark Zuckerberg to finish the source code and ready the site for launch. What followed next is the stuff of legend as portrayed on the silver screen in The Social Network, an Academy Award-winning film about the founding of Facebook.
In their fascinating keynote speeches, the Winklevoss twins share their journey as elite athletes, investors and lifelong entrepreneurs. They talk about Bitcoin, Gemini, COIN, angel investing through their investment firm Winklevoss Capital, and, of course, share their side of the Facebook story. Don’t miss it!
